Adult Sailing Instruction
Admit it. You've always wanted to do this. What better time than
now, to learn to sail in the tradewinds and warm waters of Hawaii!
Hawaii
Yacht Club is proud to offer adult sailing lessons to the public.
Lessons are conducted in a Cal 20' keelboat, which is a stable, forgiving,
and easy-to-sail vessel. Class size is limited to two students per
instructor for each on-the-water lesson, so you will have plenty of
time to practice your sailing skills and to ask all your hardest questions!
The sailing portion of the instruction includes four (4) three-hour
learning sessions aboard the Cal 20. Our instructors are US Sailing
trained and certified instructors, also certified in CPR and First
Aid.
Once
you're certified, Hawaii Yacht Club offers a complete fleet of easy-to-sail
vessels to expand your sailing horizons. We have everything from 8'
El Toros, to Toppers, 470's, Lasers, and of course, the Cal 20. (Don't
worry if you don't recognize the names. Your instructor will have
you fluent in sailor-speak in no time.)
Registration and introductions are held on the third Thursday of
the month at 6:30 PM, or by appointment.
What
does all this cost? For non-HYC-members, the entire program cost is
a very reasonable $495.00 for one person. If you learn to sail with
a friend or spouse, the second person learns for half-off the price!
For Hawaii Yacht Club members, there is an additional 25% off the
cost. Many of our members decided
to join HYC in large part due to the cost savings on learning
to sail, their primary objective, only to realize the many benefits
of suddenly finding themselves surrounded by encouraging, like-minded
new friends. You can do the math and easily see many benefits.
